Complaining about a bicycle
A bicycle has a 2 year complaint right under the Sale of Goods Act when the fault is not ordinary wear or damage you caused.
Last updated: 2 October 2026.
A bicycle bought in a shop or online as a consumer is covered by the Sale of Goods Act for 2 years. That includes a crack in the frame, a hub that fails early, or electronics on an e-bike that never worked steadily.
Worn tyres, a loose chain after many kilometres and damage after a crash are generally not a defect. For the first 12 months a fault is presumed to have been there at purchase.
For an online purchase you often also have a 14 day withdrawal right under the Consumer Contracts Act if you simply change your mind. That is not the same as a complaint. Keep the receipt. This text is not legal advice.
